At Growing Kids , we celebrate many
events throughout the year. Most often than not, we include
parents, grandparents, and friends to join us to make it a
community event. One reason we do this is to strengthen the
children’s connection between school and the rest of their life.
Another reason is to demonstrate to the children the learning
opportunities outside the school’s doors – having guest speakers
come to the school, or taking a field trip there (for the older
students).
All-school Events
Each season we have an all
school event where the entire Growing Kids community is invited
to one place, including any other friends and family who want to
join us as well. These are free events to foster a sense of
community. Examples include:
-
Halloween Fun House
-
Holiday Program
-
Spring Egg Hunt
-
Summer Cook Out
Special Events
Throughout the year we have
many special events that are celebrated within the classroom. In
this smaller setting, the children have the opportunity to share
their classroom with their parents, grandparents, or other
special people. Examples include:
-
Mothers / Fathers Day
-
Grandparents Day
-
Fourth of July
Special Visitors
Young children are
“concrete thinkers” – they respond well to what they can see,
hear or touch directly. When it is impractical to take the
children on a field trip, we bring the event to them here are
Growing Kids. This brings depth to the curriculum and makes for
some wonderful memories for the kids. Examples include:
-
Police / fire fighters
-
Zoo animals
-
Notre Dame leprechaun
-
Dentist
